Melbourne Park / Australian Open
Official aerial photography, mapping and cinematography coverage of the Australian Open for more than a decade.
The project
A long-term aerial view of one of Melbourne’s biggest international events.
Lensaloft has provided official aerial photography, high resolution mapping and cinematography for Melbourne Park and the Australian Open for more than a decade, documenting the tournament from both helicopter and drone platforms.
The work ranges from hero aerial photography and cinematic helicopter footage captured across peak days of the event to detailed vertical mapping and regular drone coverage throughout the two week tournament period.
Working over a live major event in central Melbourne requires the creative brief and aviation planning to operate as one. Each season involves coordination with project stakeholders, CASA, Victoria Police and relevant aviation authorities to secure approved access and safely work within a complex and changing airspace environment.

High-resolution aerial mapping
Mapping the complete Melbourne Park precinct from the air.
Lensaloft’s aerial mapping coverage creates a highly detailed vertical photographic record of Melbourne Park during the Australian Open, capturing the entire precinct at a scale and resolution suited to major event presentation, planning and large format display.
The mapping work has received international recognition at the Professional Aerial Photographers awards in the United States, including awards for aerial imagery and mapping photography.
Event coverage
From peak event helicopter hero imagery to daily low altitude coverage.
Helicopter photography provides the scale, city context and elevated perspectives required for major hero and marketing imagery, while approved drone operations provide a more intimate view of the precinct, venues, crowds and changing event atmosphere throughout the tournament. Live feeds are transmitted to a range of locations for instant review and feedback.
Aerial cinematography
Australian Open from the air.
Aerial motion coverage combines helicopter and drone perspectives to capture the scale of Melbourne Park, the energy of the tournament and the transformation of the precinct from day through golden hour and night.
Airspace & operations
Creative coverage inside a complex live event environment.
The Australian Open sits within a busy central Melbourne aviation environment and operates as a major live event with changing security, crowd and operational requirements.
Each aerial program is planned around the imagery required, the timing of play and events on the ground, aircraft and pilot capability, weather and light, and the approvals needed to access the airspace safely and legally.
Close coordination with stakeholders, CASA, Victoria Police and aviation authorities allows helicopter and drone coverage to be integrated into the event while maintaining the operational controls required around the precinct.
